Week-1

Oct 3-4 (Sat-Sun) Larch Mountain hike/ Nesika overnight - Class C

Let's celebrate the 100 anniversary of the Larch Mountain Trail and the founding of the Trails Club of Oregon by climbing Larch Mountain. We'll celebrate at the summit and then hike down to Nesika Lodge where we'll spend Saturday night. We return to Portland Sunday morning. hiking 12 miles, 4000 feet gain $20 for members.
Depart: 9 AM. Saturday from Multnomah Falls parking lot.

Oct 3-4 (Sat-Sun) Pre- Museum Event - Tyee

Join with Trails Club friends, enjoy early autumn weather and prepare to serve as club ambassadors for the museum, now scheduled on Sunday. Dinner feast includes meatloaf; baked potatoes topped with your choice of assorted fresh veggies; Spinach salad with strawberries, cucumbers and almonds dressed with lemon juice, oil and poppy seeds; and a moist gluten-free dessert (carrot cake). Breakfast includes Debbie’s famous steel cut oats and George’s traditional with meat/eggs. Festivities include walkabouts, gathering around the fire to renew friendships and make new ones, along with a ruckus game of Farkel lead by fearless leader Debbie Ralls.

Oct 4 (Sun) Our 100th year celebration - Mt. Hood Cultural Center & Museum

Plan to Meet-up with your Trails club friends and be present for this monumental event, sure to be a news room photo opportunity. Enjoy a piece of cake, take a short hike or stay later for a presentation on Oregon lookouts & Trails Club history.
Plan to be an TCO Ambassador at this centennial event and introduce the public to our club and it's history . Timing for cake cutting and media presence will be announced soon.

Week-2

Oct 5 (Mon) Hamilton Mountain Hike – Class - B

We will hike to Hamilton mountain. This is a 8 mile lollipop loop from Beacon Rock State Park. Hike is rated strenuous in Paul Geralds 60 hikes within 60 miles of Portland. Expect actual hike time of 4 - 5 hours, pace will be leisure to moderate. Elevation gain is 2,200 feet, come prepared for the elements.
Departure: 8:30 AM from Ron's house 1260 NW Bella Vista Court, Gresham, Oregon, 97030. Call for directions if necessary. Please Register with leader Ron Silvis before actual hike day.

Oct 7 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B

We begin our hike at 9:30 am and hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, somewhere in the Portland metropolitan area, often in Forest Park. We then have lunch at a nearby cafe.
This hike will be on Mt. Tabor in SE Portland. Contact leader for meeting place.

Oct 7 (Wed) Evening Hike – Class A/B

We will leave at 6 pm sharp and hike until 8 PM-ish in Forest Park and the West Hills in two groups:
Class A: Approximately 4-5 miles with less than 500 foot elevation gain.
Class B: Approximately 6 miles with 500 - 700 foot elevation gain (not cumulative).
Meet: 5:50 PM at Wallace Park between NW 25th and 26th on Raleigh

Oct 10-11 (Sat-Sun) Hike-N-Dine - Tyee

Enjoy a fall hike and then join us for a Middle Eastern (Lebanese/Palestinian) dinner at Tyee on October 10. The menu will be (more or less) homemade Arabic bread, felafel with relish and sauce, hummus bit-tahini, cucumber yogurt salad, Lebanese cauliflower with avocado tartatour, baked kafta and baqlawa. Diners limited to 30 people. Dinner will be $10 and breakfast, $3. Usual day use or overnight fees apply.

Oct 11 (Sun) Alpine Outing Planning Meeting

Where shall we go next year? It’s not too early to start planning for 2016. We need volunteers to step up to be the outing coordinator, the first and second week leaders, and the kitchen gods and goddesses.

Week-3

Oct 12 (Mon) Ape Canyon Hike – Class B

We will hike 11.6 miles out and back in Forest spared from adjacent 1980 Mt St Helens volcanic mud flow. Hike has an elevation gain of 1,300 ft taking us to perimeter of blast zone showing dramatic effects of the eruption. I will be doing an exploratory hike. Please see Meetup site for further information.
Departure: 8:00 AM from Ron's house 1260 NW Bella Vista Court, Gresham, Oregon, 97030. (Or alternate TBD). Please Register with leader Ron Silvis before actual hike day.

Oct 14 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B

We begin our hike at 9:30 am and hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, somewhere in the Portland metropolitan area, often in Forest Park. We then have lunch at a nearby cafe.
We will hike 4 or 5 miles through the arboretum, then go to lunch at the Cascade Grill just inside the zoo's front gate, no entry fee required. Decent food, wine and beer.
Meet at the Hoyt Aboretum visitors center at 4000 SW Fairview Ave. Parking is free on the street in front of the visitors center, but limited, so car pool if you can. MAX and bus 63.

Oct 15 (Thurs) Adventures in Travel - Hiking in England

Richard Gaunt will present a program of hiking in Cornwall and the Cotswolds plus a peek at the filming location of the OPB series "Doc Martin". The Cotswolds are absolutely beautiful! You won’t want to miss this program.
Social hour 6:30 p.m., program starts at 7 p.m. Please bring a snack to share or $1 donation to help defray costs. Guests are very welcome!

Oct 17-18th (Sat-Sun) Nesika Work Weekend

Come to our home in the Columbia River National Scenic Area and participate in the spirit of volunteerism. We will be finishing up a few wood working projects, and getting the last of the wood in for the winter. There will be a few sections of road we will need to finish up putting gravel on and clearing. We will also ask for participation in the planning for next year's projects on Saturday evening after dinner.

Oct 19 (Mon) Multnomah Falls to Waukeena Hike – Class B

We will hike up Multnomah Falls to Waukeena Trail then 4 mile RT up and back to Angels Rest before proceeding down Waukeena Falls Trail to return Multnomah Falls Lodge. This hike total is 11 miles with an elevation gain of 1,600 ft.

This hike is the Rose City Park Beaumont and Hollywood loop. 5+ miles.

Oct 31 (Sat) Rim Rock Viewpoint Hike - Class B

Located off Hwy 35 on Mt Hood's, generally, drier east side. This out and back hike ascends the Oak Ridge Trail through varying terrain to spectacular (weather-permitting) views from a former lookout site located on Surveyors Ridge. Hope for nice weather. But be prepared for something else.
Hike: 7.7 miles w/ 2,360' elevation gain. Drive: 130 r/t miles
Depart: 8:30 from Lewis & Clark State park (I-84, exit 18)

Oct 31 - Nov 1 (Sat-Sun) Nesika Halloween Party

Come join us for a Halloween Party designed for the young and old. We will have games, decorations, haunted trick or treat set up on the trail. We could use some help; cooks, game designers, decorators.
Cost for weekend is $30 for adults and $20 for children. There is a cut rate family fee for lodging not to exceed $30 for the night.
