All visitors and Trails Club members are encouraged to enjoy the great Northwest outdoors by selecting a hike, bike ride or other event from this calendar. Gentle Reminders provides explanation of hike difficulty and hike guideline. Detail description of common meeting is available at Meeting Places.

Week-1

Sept 2 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B

We begin our hike at 9:30 am and hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, somewhere in the Portland metropolitan area, often in Forest Park. We then have lunch at a nearby cafe.
This week we will Hike will be through Dickenson and Woods Park. Lunch will be at O’Connors in Multnomah Village.
Meet: 9:15 for prompt departure at 9:30 at the West Portland United Methodist Church which is at the intersection of SW 48th Street and SW Taylors Ferry Road, address, 4729 SW Taylors Ferry. Park in church parking lot which can be accessed off of 48th Street. Please park away from building. Parking close to building is used by families picking up and dropping off small children for day care.

Sept 2 (Wed) Evening Hike – Class A/B

We will hike until 8 PM-ish in Forest Park and the West Hills in two groups:
Class A: Approximately 4-5 miles with less than 500 foot elevation gain.
Class B: Approximately 6 miles with 500 - 700 foot elevation gain (not cumulative).
Meet: 6 PM at Wallace Park between NW 25th and 26th on Raleigh

Sept 3-7 (Thur-Mon) Tyee to Nesika 100th Anniversary Hike/Backpack - Class C

Hike from Tyee to Nesika. 3 nights car camping and 1 night to camp on the trail. This is strenuous hiking. OK for people to meet us at different starting points to begin hike. Total of 66.7 miles. Maximum to Register is 12.

Sept 3 7.5 mi Start at Tyee 5:00 PM. Hike up Alpine Road to Timberline Trail. Car camp.
Sept 4 15 mi Start at Timberline. Hike slack pack to Lolo Pass. Meet and car camp.
Sept 5 15.3 mi Lolo Pass to Wahtum Lake. Slack Pack. Meet car and camp.
Sept 6 14.9 mi Wahtum Lake to Dublin Lake. Overnight BP.
Sept 7 14 mi Dublin Lake to Nesika: Billy Goat Trail, Moffett Creek trail, Horse Tail Creek, Franklin Ridge trail. Nesika and catch ride home.

To make this happen we will need someone to open Nesika Lodge for the weekend. We will also need someone to help with shuttle of camping gear Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. If you can help out contatc the leader.

Sept 5-7 (Sat-Mon) Labor Day at Tyee

Lodge will be hosted "Host Only" (unless we get a volunteer to cook some or all the meals) so plan to provide your own food. Come join us for a relaxing weekend. We will do some hiking, and the lodge will be locked when everyone is out and about, so bring you key if you have one. If you are interested in cooking any or all meals, please contact Barbara Jones.

Sept 5-7 (Sat-Mon) Labor Day at Nesika

Thanks to two club members who have volunteered, Nesika lodge will be open for the holiday weekend. Karen or Roger Anderson will be serving Sat dinner, Sun, breakfast and dinner. Monday breakfast will also be served. Dinners $7, Breakfast $3, bring your own lunches. Normal overnight and day use fees apply.
The upper gate will be opened at 10 AM Saturday. Let the cook know if you are meeting us there when you register and please be on time.

Week-2

Sept 8 (Tue) Col River Hwy Bike - Moffitt Creek Section - Class A/B

Heading west from Cascade Locks the bike trail takes us to a historic bridge over Moffitt Creek and a 1.6 mile segment of a recently dedicated (Sept, 2013) Historic Columbia River Hwy pedestrian/bike path. This ride will showcase a beautiful new path with restored views of Beacon Rock and scenic picnic/rest areas before reaching a beautifully recreated bridge at McCord Creek. and then to JB Yeon State Park Trailhead. Those wishing, will continue on the Old Hwy, passing another restored tunnel at Oneonta Gorge, to Multnomah Falls before returning. Mileage: Cascade Locks/Yeon, 15 miles round trip (RT), or Cascade Locks-Multnomah Falls, 27 miles RT. Join me for a beautiful ride on a new jewel in the crown of Oregon’s most magnificent historic highway now being brought back to life.
Depart: 10 AM Parking lot under the Bridge of the Gods at Cascade Locks, adjacent to the Charburger.

This week's hike will begin at Friendly House at NW Thurman and 28th.
Please arrive by 9:15 so we can depart promptly at 9:30. Lunch for those interested will be at the Cracker Jack Café.

Sept 10 (Thu) Willamette Park to Zoo and Back Bike Ride - Class A+

We'll ride from Willamette Park to Goose Hollow, MAX up to the Zoo and ride back down to Willamette Park. Most of the ride is on city streets and there are a bunch of hills, both up and down (so this is a fair bit harder than my usual rides). Between 15-20 miles. Bring $$ and/or a ticket for the MAX ride. We’ll probably go somewhere for lunch after the ride. I don’t ride in the rain or the excessive heat, so please check with me if the weather seems iffy.
Meet: 9:45 am for a 10 am departure, in front of Fulton Pub at 0618 SW Nebraska St., near the entrance to Willamette Park. There should be plenty of parking on Nebraska St. or other side streets.

Sept 12-13 (Sat-Sun) Tyee Hike and Dine - German

Barbara Jones will be your cook this weekend. The menu will be cheese fondue, salad, spaetzle, german hot potato salad, vegetable, smoked pork chops, and dessert. A hearty breakfast will be served on Sunday. Cost is $9 for dinner, and $3 breakfast plus overnight and day use fees apply for members and guests. Member cost for weekend is $22. Will open lodge by noon Saturday.

Sept 12-13 (Sat-Sun) Indian Heaven Loop Exploratory Backpack Class B

We’ll explore the Indian Heaven Wilderness, with its many lakes in the Washington South Cascades. Our trailhead will be at the Cultus Creek Campground, and when we enter the wilderness we will have multiple options at to where to explore and camp. Area is known for its lakes and also for mosquitoes, but hopefully by going in September most will be gone. Distance in will be between 4-5 miles depending on where we end up and about 1700 feet of elevation gain.

Sept 16 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B

We begin our hike at 9:30 am and hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, somewhere in the Portland metropolitan area, often in Forest Park. We then have lunch at a nearby cafe.
This week: We will hike in Forest Park after walking across St. Johns Bridge, thereby gaining access to Forest Parks Ridge Trail.
Meet at Cathedral Park at 9:15 AM so we are ready to depart at 9:30 am. Cathedral Park is under the East end of St. Johns Bridge. On its Web site it advertises Rest Room facilities.
Dir to Cathedral Park from Friendly House: travel north two blocks to Vaughn - Left on Vaughn - Left again at 2nd stop light onto St Helens Ave. Five more miles brings you to St Johns Bridge, follow signs to cross the bridge. The directions to get to the park once across the bridge are confusing to write out, please Google Map it so you can see why it is confusing. Leader: Ron Silvis before actual hike day.

Week-4

Sept 23 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B

We begin our hike at 9:30 am and hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, somewhere in the Portland metropolitan area, often in Forest Park. We then have lunch at a nearby cafe.
This hike will be a tour of Pearl district/downtown water features. Hike will go down to the river, passing water features along the way, ending at Keller Auditorium. Most will probably want to take the trolley back to Friendly House, so bring a transit ticket or change to buy one. Lunch will be at the Mandarin Cove restaurant near Keller Auditorium
Depart: 9:30 AM from Friendly House at NW Thurman and 26th.
