Gentle Reminders provides explanation of hike difficulty and hike guideline. Detail description of common meeting is available at Meeting Places.

Aug 3 (Mon) - Blue Lake Park Bike Ride - Class B

This ride is largely on bike trails -- I205 bike path, Springwater Corridor, Gresham-Fairview bike path, and Marine Drive bike path with some connecting city streets. It is 25 miles and with 525 feet total ascent. We will stop for lunch at Blue Lake Park.
Register with leader via e-mail - may reschedule if bad weather.

Aug 3 (Mon) - Bald Mtn Hike - Class B

Hike from Bald Mtn trailhead down hill 3.5 miles on timberline trail to Ramona Falls 2.5 more miles to Ramona Falls trailhead parking lot. Six mile total. On the way to Bald Mtn trailhead vehicle will be staged for ride back up hill to hike start point.
Depart: 8 AM from hike leader Ron's home 1260 NW Bella Vista Court.
Alternate Departure: 8:45 at Sandy Or Safeway parking lot.

Aug 5 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B

We begin our hike at 9:30 am and hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, somewhere in the Portland metropolitan area, often in Forest Park. We then have lunch at a nearby cafe. This week’s hike will be to Rocky Butte.
Depart: 9:30 AM from The Grotto, 8840 NE Skidmore St., Portland (just east of 82nd and Sandy). Park in their lot furthest from the gift shop. Restrooms available at the gift shop. Leader: Ron Kinder, k7vmn@arrl.net , 503-636-4166

Aug 5 (Wed) Evening Hike – Class A/B

We will hike until 8 PM-ish in Forest Park and the West Hills in two groups:
Class A: Approximately 4-5 miles with less than 500 foot elevation gain.
Class B: Approximately 6 miles with 500 - 700 foot elevation gain (not cumulative).
Meet: 6 PM at Wallace Park between NW 25th and 26th on Raleigh

Aug 6 (Thu) Gresham to Sandy Bike - Class A

We will ride out the Spring Water Trail to Boring, then on a bike lane on HWY 26 to Sandy. Maximum East terminus on 26 Joe'e Donuts - Best in Oregon. Distance RT 25 miles.
Depart: 10 AM from leaders home 1260 NW Bella Vista Court, Gresham; Easy bike trail access, ample safe parking available.

Aug 8-9 (Sat-Sun) Tyee Hike-N-Dine - Caribbean Medley

Cancelled due to lack of registration

Kathy Pollock and Kate Leonard will be our cooks with a culinary tour of the Caribbean islands of Jamaica, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas. Appetizers, blackened trout with fried plantains, jerk sweet potatoes and black bean curry, mildly-spiced yellow rice with vegetables, mango-tomato-avocado salad, dhal puri (Indian flatbread), virgin cuba libres, and coconut ice cream with Caribbean fruits for dessert. It’s an almost gluten-free menu. Cost $10 dinner, $3 breakfast. Nancy Overpeck will be the host. Overnight and day use fees apply for members and guests. Limited to 28 people.

Aug 8-9 (Sat-Sun) Elk Cove Exploratory Backpack Class B

We’ll access Elk Cove on the north side of Mount Hood via the Vista Ridge Trail and the Timberline Trail. Hike up will be thru the Dollar Lake Burn of 2011, the views are scenic once we reach the Timberline Trail. Scenery should include the north face of Mount Hood, north to Mount Adams, Saint Helens, and Mount Rainier. Elk Cove itself is said to be quite scenic. Mileage will be approximately 4 ½ each way with about 1700 feet of elevation gain going in and about a 400 foot loss into Elk Cove.

Aug 10 (Mon) - Sauvie Island Bike Ride - Class B

32 mile flat ride around Sauvie Island. Pack a lunch, snacks and plenty of water. Depart: 10 AM Parking lot near the Sauvie Island Bridge

Aug 10 (Mon) - Bald Mtn Ramona Falls Loop Hike - Class B

We will start at the Bald Mtn trailhead. Spur trail 1/2 mile to PCT/TLC junction. Timberline trail 3 miles downhill to Ramona Falls. Ramona Falls trail 1/2 mile cross Muddy Fork on double fallen tree. This is an easy fun crossing call trip leader for details if doubtful or apprehensive. Two more Miles uphill in closed forest PCT to start point. Mileage is about 7 miles. Moderate hike at leisurely pace. Lunch at Ramona Falls.
Depart: 8 AM from hike leader Ron's home 1260 NW Bella Vista Court.

Aug 13 (Thu) Springwater Trail to Boring - Class A

We will ride the eastern part of the Springwater Corridor, the part we never do! The ride is slightly uphill on the way out and downhill on the way back, all on bike path. Total distance is 20 miles. We will ride from SE 145th out to Boring, have lunch at the Not So Boring Bar and Grill and then ride back. Call or email with questions. I don’t ride in the rain or the excessive heat, so if weather is iffy, call my cell to check if ride is a go.
Depart: 10 AM, On SE 145th between the Springwater Corridor and SE Ellis St. This is just on the west side of Powell Butte Nature Park. Only way in is on SE Ellis St. Make sure you are NORTH of the Springwater Corridor. Google map the intersection of SE Ellis and SE 145th and you should find it.

Aug 14-16 (Fri-Sun) Nesika Work Trip

Come join us for a great time at Nesika. We will finish up on road work; brushing and bridge repair. We will begin ensuring adequate wood supply for winter. There will be splitting, stacking and moving wood. Some wood working and flooring repairs still need finished. Kids are welcome. Still some bird houses that will need finished.

Aug 15-16 (Sat-Sun) Tyee Work weekend

Come join us at the August Tyee Work Party. Projects include replacing the front porch, replacing kitchen floor, spring cleaning, moving wood and several odd jobs that need to be accomplished. Let Stephen Brown, August Work Party Chair know what projects you would like to work on. Rebecca Knudeson will be cooking delicious meals. Sign up for the weekend or for the day.

Depart: 9:30 AM at SW 18th Ave. and SW Spring, near Ainsworth Elementary, in front of Ascension Episcopal church.

Aug 22 (Sat) Potluck/BBQ Picnic - Hopkins Demonstration Forest

We will have a potluck picnic at noon at the picnic at shelter by Hopkins Hall near restroom. Please let me know what you will be bringing so we have a good variety of food. Will provide black bean burgers, and hotdogs. There is nice grill if you wish to bring something else to cook.
Walt Garvin will lead an optional hike at this 140 acre forest.
Meet for the hike at 9:45 AM from the parking lot, and Return by noon for the picnic.
To Get There: Hopkins is located at 16750 S Brockway Rd, Oregon city, 10 miles south on Hwy 213, (Exit 10) turn left at Spangler Rd, and follow signs to Brockway Rd. Turn right to parking at end of road. Check out Hopkins website at www.demonstrationforest.org.

Aug 24 (Mon) Bald Mtn to Maz trail Hike – Class B

Hike is from Bald Mtn top spur trail to Maz trail McNeil trail intersection. Distance total is 7.8 miles at this turn around point and elevation here is 5,600 ft. Possibility of continuing on for another 1.2 mile to McNeil Shelter if group hearty enough. Round trip to McNeil Shelter is 10.4 mile with elevation gain of 2,200 ft. Hike considered difficult because of elevation and distance but every attempt will be made to proceed at leisure pace.

Aug 27 (Thur) Trolley Trail Loop Ride- Class B

We will ride a loop going out to Gladstone on the Trolley Trail. We will wind through Gladstone, then return via i205 bike path & Springwater. This ride has some long gradual climbs. Ride is approx.30 mi. I can email link to the map with elevation by email the week before the ride.
Depart: 9:00 AM, Sellwood Riverfront Park, SE Spokane & Oaks Park Way (parking area)
