All visitors and Trails Club members are encouraged to enjoy the great Northwest outdoors by selecting a hike, bike ride or other event from this calendar. Gentle Reminders provides explanation of hike difficulty and hike guideline. Detail description of common meeting is available at Meeting Places.

Week-1

Sep 4 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B

We hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, usually in Forest Park, then lunch at a nearby cafe. If you would like to know the distance or difficulty of the hike, call the leader.

Sep 4 (Wed) Evening Hike – Class B

We will hike approximately 6 miles in Forest Park and the West Hills with 500 foot elevation gain (not cumulative). Return about 8:00 PM.
Depart: 6:00 PM from Wallace Park between NW 25th and 26th on NW Raleigh St.

Sept 5 (Thurs) Puget Island Bike Ride - Class B

This is one of my favorite rides each year as we ride on almost traffic free roads around Puget Island. There is a possibility to ride through the Columbian White Tail Deer Refuge and back again. The ride is mostly flat and about 30 - 35 miles long. We will meet at the Westport Ferry off Hwy 30 at 9:45 am. The ferry leaves at 10:15 am sharp and costs $2.00 per bike each way.

Sept 7-8 (Sat-Sun) Jefferson Park Exploratory Backpack – Class B

Access Jefferson Park from the Whitewater Trail on the west side of Mount Jefferson. Our hike in will be approximately 6 miles or so one way with 1900 feet of elevation gain. Jefferson Park is well known for its scenery. Once we get to Jefferson Park, we’ll explore the area for the best campsites, set up camp, and explore some more if we wish. Sept 13 (Fri) Nesika Work Party Hike - Class B

Hike to Nesika Lodge from Multnomah Falls for the September work weekend. We'll climb the Larch Mountain Trail, pass beautiful waterfalls and follow the Cougar Rock Trail to Nesika. I will be spending the weekend doing maintenance tasks at the lodge and will lead a hike back down on Sunday afternoon, however you can return Saturday at anytime if you are comfortable returning on your own. If you would like to become a club member, this hike and lodge visit meet all membership requirements. This hike is about 4 miles each way with about 1800 feet elevation gain. Bring water and a snack.
We will meet outside Multnomah Falls Lodge gift shop at 6 pm. Bring a headlamp as it may be getting dark before we arrive! Sunset is at 7:30.

Sept 14 (Sat) Nesika Membership Hike - Class B

A beautiful trek up from Multnomah Lodge to the historic and tranquil grounds of Nesika Lodge, offering a babbling creek, lush woods and gradual elevation gain. Trails Club folks will be working there so it will be open for your visit. Bring water and lunch or snacks. This hike and lodge visit qualifies you for Trails Club membership if you wish to apply. Hike about 8 miles round trip with 1700-1800 feet elevation gain. Moderate-plus pace.
Depart: Gateway Park & Ride garage at 8:30 AM, or from Multnomah Falls Lodge gift shop by 9:15 AM

Sept 14-15 (Sat-Sun) Nesika Work Party

Come join us at Nesika for a weekend of work, food, and camaraderie. We will be finishing up several projects including the back porch roof, painting Redwing, misc repairs, and the ever popular fall wood moving. Stephen Brown will be our cook.

Sept 20-22 (Fri-Sun) Nesika - Multnomah County Search and Rescue

Multnomah County Search and Rescue will be training in the Basin and using Nesika as their base camp. Trails Club Members are welcome to come and meet these volunteers who do so much for the hiking community. Meals will not be provided so bring your own food if you are staying overnight.

Sept 21 (Sat) Mirror Lake to Trail Hike - class B

Saturday Hike: Will be led by Mike Haasken from Mirror Lake to Trail 664 to Tom, Dick & Harry Mountain; 5.8 miles round trip; 1,715 feet elevation gain. This is a class B hike with a maximum of 12 hikers due to the fact that it is within the wilderness boundaries. No parking pass required. Bring your lunch.
You are welcome to join us for the "dine" at Tyee after the hike (see below)
Depart From: Ski Bowl ski area at 10:00 AM

Sept 21-22 (Sat-Sun) Tyee Hike & Dine

Saturday Hike: Will be led by Mike Haasken from Mirror Lake to Trail 664 to Tom, Dick & Harry Mountain;(see above).
Join us for a dinner of Eggplant Parmesan, salad, garlic bread and dessert at Tyee Lodge. Ask about gluten free options. Hosts and cooks are Diane Brooke and Debbie Ralls. Dinner is served at 6 PM and limited to 25 people. $12 for dinner and day fee only (members). $22 for those spending the night. Diane and Mike will have the lodge open on both Friday and Saturday nights with Saturday breakfast on your own. You are welcome to come only for dinner and not spend Saturday night.

Sept 21 (Sat) Banks-Vernonia Bike Ride—Class B or Class A

We will start at the Banks trailhead and ride up to Vernonia on a paved bike/walking/horse path. The trail was built on a former railroad bed and passes through beautiful forested land. There is a 7 mile uphill section with 1 steep hill. The rest is mainly flat or downhill. We will eat lunch at Vernonia Lake and return along the same path. 44 miles round trip. There is an option to camp in Vernonia and return the next day. There are also 2 other trailheads to start from. One would shorten the total distance to 30 miles, and the other to 20 miles.

Cancelled due to weather (and cancellation of the hike & dine)

Please make your supper reservations for the Hike & dine (see below). Then plan on a beautiful, afternoon hike along Multnomah Creek to to the Trails Club's remote lodge, located high above Multnomah Falls. Be sure to leave plenty of time to find a parking space. Bring a flashlight (or two) w/ fresh batteries for the hike out after supper. Hike: 8 miles w/ 1,800' elevation gain

Sept 28-29 (Sat-Sun) Hike and Dine Nesika

Cancelled due to weather

Meet at Larch Mountain Road Gate at 9 am. There will be a hike starting at the Lodge. Dinner will be served between 5:30 and 6:00 PM The meal will be delectable Italian. I'm the cook and have a trained chef "helping" me. Please make reservations by Sept 25, 5 PM
You are welcome to come only for dinner and not spend Saturday night.

Sept 28-29 (Sat-Sun) Tyee Work Party

We will be concentrating on wrapping up our projects as much as possible in case there is an early snowfall. Also, we hope to have enough wood on site to place in our temporary wood storage shed in preparation for next year. This is the month we bring in all the staples and supplies for the winter season.
