Let's Talk About

2013 Belknap Hot Springs Outing

Blessings: GREAT THANKS to Vicki for her vision 8 years ago to establish a TCO Outing at Belknap Hot Springs. Vicki’s choice of an excellent location, her efficient planning, frugal spending and ability to involve everyone in the process has resulted in a sustainable outing. Other blessings this year: 25 lbs of ribs recovered and beaver dams saving tents

Group demographics: Pre-teens to Grandmas to those healing from injuries and illnesses (Mike Harrison/Sylvia Milne) with a group totaling 63, which includes 49 registered for the outing along with some drop-in family visitors. Art Stangell was recognized as the person on the Outing with the most years in the club (his birth and wedding announcement have both appeared in Trail Blazer Let’s Talk About It’s)

Group Activities – something for everyone:

  • Hikes: Clear Lake; Sahalie & Koosah Falls; Black Crater; Blue Pool; Terwilliger Hot Springs, Deer Creek Hot Springs and Nancy Overpeck’s hike of an unspecified destination
  • Bikes: Groups to solo. Diane’s 10 mile trip up hill; Group bike trip to Deer Creek
  • Scenic car ride: Sister's Balery & Dee Wright Observatory
  • Campfire conversation: Expanding club camp outs; saving Forest Park; dreaming of a Tyee addition and Physics/Engineering Geeks exchanging secret formulas
  • Water: more than half the group soaked in the upper and lower hot springs pools (104 degrees); members becoming one with the water, cooled off in a parking lot geyser and 9 signed up for a guided rafting trip down the McKenzie
  • Games: Mexican Train, UNO & Backgammon
  • Music: Jeff, Randy, Sylvia and Diane played Madeline, Recorder, Guitar, Native American flute and drum

Recorded/submitted July 4, 2013 by Sylvia Milne on behalf of the June 30th dinner group
