April 2 (Thu) North Plains - Dairy Creek Rd Bike Ride - Class A/B
As the first ride this season we will ride from North Plains to the end of Dairy Creek Rd
through beautiful Washington County farmland. The ride is basically flat and about 20 miles long.
We will pass by the Glider airport.

April 4 (Sat) Catherine Creek Loop Hike - Class B
This is a great time of year to hike Catherine Creek and see the wildflowers before it gets too hot!
This loop starts near Major Creek and works its way over to Coyote Wall.
Distance: 8 miles, gain - about 2400 feet of gain overall. Class B.
Bring water and a lunch, a hat, sunscreen and wear long pants due to possible ticks and
poison oak. (Technu is effective against poison oak.)
Meet: 8 AM sharp in the Gateway Transit Center parking garage.
Driving distance to the trailhead is 70 miles.

April 4-5 (Sat-Sun) Beginner Backpack, Salmon creek - Class A
This will be a great opportunity to try out backpacking and trouble shoot your equipment without
too much risk. We will hike in about 2 miles elevation gain 200 feet and make camp on the beautiful
scenic Salmon river. Sunday morning hike back out. Lets bring items for a potluck for Sat night dinner.

April 8 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B
This week we will go to the Portland Japanese Garden. It is impossible to describe the
beauty and artistic landscaping, at its peak this time of year. About 30 of Trails Club
Wed AM hikers went 2 years ago - Loved by all. Open to all members - Gardens are wheel
chair accessible and there's no reason to exclude anyone.
Shuttle available from gardens parking lot to entrance gate.
Admission to the gardens is adults $9.50 / Seniors $7.75. You can purchase your tickets on line or at the gate.
Depart: 9:00 AM from Friendly
House at NW Thurman and 26th, to walk up to the garden.
Note: This is earlier than the normal Wednesday hike

April 10-12 (Fri-Sun)Tyee Hike & Dine!
We had no snow for winter, but that means an early spring. So we can start summer activities at Tyee early this year!
Lets celebrate.
Nancy Overpeck has graciously volunteered to cook for us Fri night dinner and Saturday breakfast and supper.
Ron Silvis will be opening the Lodge Friday Afternoon around 2PM - Then closing Monday afternoon.
Anticipated Hike Saturday is Mirror Lake, 3 mile out and back.
Possibily continuing on to Tom, Dick and Harry, another 1.5 miles, if conditions permit.
Alternate hike - Horseshoe Ridge 6 mile out and back.
Lodge will be open Friday night to Sunday afternoon. Lets kick the season

April 12 (Sun) Banks/Vernonia bike - Class B
Last second change. There will be another activity on the
Banks - Vernonia, so this trip has been moved to Springwater.
Weather should be ourstanding.
Meet: Selwood park 10 AM.
A Ride the beautiful Banks - Vernonia trail. We will meet at the trail head
in Banks, ride 20 miles to Vernonia, and return on the same path. Bring a
sack lunch or eat out at one of the restaurants in Vernonia. The trail is
an old railroad grade so it is a fairly gentle climb to Vernonia. Rain or
shine unless it is stormy.

April 15 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B
We begin our hike at 9:30 am and hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, somewhere
in the Portland metropolitan area, often in Forest Park. We then have lunch
at a nearby cafe.
This week: Lair Hill & Pill Hill Interpretive Hike: Join Ken Kane for a
4.5-mile loop which includes stops for brief descriptions about old South
Portland history and the development of Oregon Health Sciences University.
There is about 410 feet of elevation gain. More information about the hike

Depart: 9:30am at the corner of SW Corbett Ave. & Lane St. (near 0114 SW Lane
St., Portland). Buses 38, 43, 45, 54, 55 and 56 run near the starting point.
Be mindful of where you park -- some of the local streets are two-hours only.
This hike will run closer to three hours. Lunch follows, for those who wish,
at a nearby café.

April 16 (Thur) Adventures in Travel - Arles, France Home Stay Exchange
This month’s program will be presented by Primetimers, John and Judy Rau.
They will explain the concept of home exchanging, and showcase their latest
adventure in Arles, France where they stayed in a 500 year-old barn. They
mixed with the locals for a month, used the host’s car, and did lots of walking.
We will learn about local castles, monasteries, hill towns in the Luberon
Mountains, and local farmer’s markets. They also visited Cassis, a Mediterranean
town with fabulous fiords. Their past programs have been very informative,
and this one should be no exception!
Social Hour 6:30 PM, program starts 7 PM
Please bring a snack to share or $1 donation to defray costs. Guests are
welcome!

April 17 (Fri) Burnt Bridge Creek - Frenchman’s Bar - Class A/B
The short A level ride is an out and back on the Burnt Bridge Creek Trail.
It is 16 miles long with scenic views. The B level ride follows this with
17 more miles and stops at Vancouver Lake for lunch and Frenchman’s Bar on
the Columbia. The total route has 850 feet of ascent. E-mail leader to register
for the ride, saying whether you plan to ride the shorter or longer route.
Registration required since ride may be rescheduled in rainy weather.

April 17-19 (Fri-Sun) Nesika Work Trip
Come join us for the first work trip of the season. We will be doing spring
cleaning; washing down mattresses, sweeping and mopping floors in dorms.
Lots of brushing, cutting and removing the debris off the road from winter
storms. We have wood cut on the road that needs to be brought into the lodge.
The hand rail on upper deck of women's dorm needs primed and painted weather
permitting. Club member and outdoor author, William Sullivan, plans to join
us as a working volunteer. He will show slides promoting his new Oregon Desert
Book. Lets get a jump on the season. Youth welcome.
Meet at the upper gate at 9:00 AM Saturday if you do not have a key.

April 17-19 (Fri-Sun) Camping at Champoeg State Park
Road trip to Champoeng State Park, (Short distance South of Newberg ).
We will RV camp in Ron Silvis 31 ft motor home. Sleeps six, can take 8
to state park - That means room for 7 more to accompany me.
Have reservations for Friday night April 17 and Saturday night April 18.
On the way to Park we will visit Tualatin Valley National Wildlife Refuge (3.7 mile loop day hike ).
Hiking trail available along Willamette River, campground has extensive trail system.
Ample biking opportunities country right outside campground.
RV has bike carrier 3-4 bikes. Bring yours or ride mine.

April 18 (Sat) Hamilton Mountain - Class B/C
This is a 7.6 mile 2000 feet elevation gain loop hike. Not only will we hike past
Hardy falls but we will get to enjoy the views of the Gorge at lunch from the top.
Bring plenty of water,snacks and lunch. This hike usually take around 4 hours.
Potential for stopping by Edgefield's afterwards if the group is interested.

April 18 (Sat) Nesika Membership Hike - Class B+
A beautiful trek up from Multnomah Lodge to the historic and tranquil grounds of Nesika Lodge,
offering a babbling creek, lush woods and gradual elevation along the way.
Trailsclub folks will be at the lodge working so it will be open for your visit.
Bring water and lunch or snacks. Approx. 8 miles rt, 1700-1800 ' elev. gain., moderate-plus pace.

April 19 (Sun) Portland Loop Bike Ride — Class B
We will do a 32-mile loop on Portland's dedicated bike paths and on roads
with bike lanes or little traffic. Mostly flat with some uphills and views
of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers and Johnson Creek.

April 19 (Sun) Eagle Creek to 4.5 Mile Bridge Hike — Stiff Class A
This classic gorge hike follows Eagle Creek, passes spectacular waterfalls,
clings to sheer cliffs and crosses a deep slot-canyon. May not be a good
choice for those who fear heights. Vehicles will need to display a NW Forest Pass.
Hike: 8 miles w/ 900' elevation gain
Drive: 60 r/t miles

April 20 (Mon) Life of Pie Ride Bike Ride — Class B
This ride is mostly flat. Most of the course is on bike paths with a few miles on Portland city bicycle streets.
The bike path along I-205 can be a little rough. We'll be going downhill and riders may want to watch their speed.

April 24-26 (Fri-Sun) Eagle Creek Backpack - Class B
This will be a 12 mile 700 feet elevation gain out and back 2 night backpack
along Eagle creek in the gorge. We will also have a day hike on Sat up
to Tunnel Falls and beyond a little, depending on the wishes of the group.
On Friday we will hike in about 6 miles and make camp. Sunday I plan to
break camp and hike out around 10am returning to Portland. Remember to bring the 10 essentials

April 29 (Wed) Morning Hike – Gladstone History Lesson - Class A/B
We will hike 4.5 miles (2 hours) on paved walks
from Oregon City to the Gladstone Conference Grounds, and back along the
Clackamas River to the lunch spot and parking. There will be a history lesson
on Gladstone, and a visit to the Chautauqua site of 1895 in Gladstone Park,
now the Gladstone Conference Grounds. We will visit the PowWow Tree as we
walk back along the Clackamas River. There are plenty of restrooms.
Lunch at Stanley’s Corner, River Rd and McLoughlin BLvd.
Depart: 9:30 AM at Clackamette Park in Oregon City. It
is located behind McDonalds on McLoughlin Blvd, across from Oregon City Shopping
Center, Exit 9 on I 205. Bus 33, 32, or 79 from Clack Town Center gets you
