All visitors and Trails Club members are encouraged to enjoy the great Northwest outdoors by selecting a hike, bike ride or other event from this calendar. Gentle Reminders provides explanation of hike difficulty and hike guideline. Detail description of common meeting is available at Meeting Places.

Week-1

Aug 2 (Sat) Trails Club Picnic Potluck at Milo McIver State Park, Eat N’ Hike

Come join us for a new club social event. Family and guests are invited! We have reserved the Dogwood Shelter in the Riverbend Day Use Area at at Milo McIver State Park. Potluck will start at 12:30 PM followed by hiking and games for young and old! There is a horseshoe pit, volleyball area (or bring a badminton set, or other lawn games.) There is a disc golf course, fishing and boating. Lawn is a little rough for croquet There are lots of picnic tables, however you may wish to bring a camp chair for more comfort. Water and electricity available at the shelter. We will start setup about 11:30 a.m, and have the shelter for all day use. There is no smoking in the park except in personal cars. We are allowed to bring in small quantities of alcohol. Per club rules it is BYOB and self serve. Super hiking trails, so bring your boots and poles!
If you last name begins with A-K, please bring an appetizer or side dish, J-R main dish, and S-Z a dessert. Please bring your own plate and utensils. Club will provide lemonade, iced tea and the fixings for hot dogs! Call today to reserve your free hotdog!
Getting there: You can access the park from Hwy 212, right onto Carver bridge, left onto Springwater Road, or you can continue to Estacada on Hwy 212/224, south on 211, 2 miles to Hayden Rd. Turn right on Hayden, and go 1 mile to Springwater Road. Turn right in 1.5 miles into park. Address is 24101 S Entrance Rd, Estacada, Or.
After park entrance, turn left at first stop sign, turn left again toward picnic shelters at bottom of hill, it will be the 3rd shelter on the right. We have room to park 35 cars. There is a $5 daily entrance fee per car if you don’t have the state park pass.

Aug 2 (Sat) Memorial Hike for Craig Carlson

Julie and Gerda were notified of Craig's death by his next of kin a few weeks ago. Craig was an active member of the Trails Club for some years but suffered from dementia the past few years. His death was unexpected. He passed away at his home of natural causes. His wish was to have his ashes scattered on one of his favorite hiking trails. We are organizing a memorial hike to honor that wish to Silver Star mountain via Ed's Trail.
We will meet at Gateway at 8:00 AM on August 2, 2014. We also will meet at 8:20 AM at Salmon Creek Park & Ride for those who come from Washington.
Please let one of us know if you will be able join the hike. Also, let others know who might be interested for all would be welcome.

Aug 2-3 (Sat-Sun) Killen Creek/High Camp Exploratory Backpack on Mount Adams Class B

We’ll access the Mount Adams Wilderness and the Pacific Crest Trail via the Killen Creek Trail. When we get up on the PCT, we can explore the High Camp area on the west side of Mount Adams, then either camp there, or hike over to the Killen Creek area. Views should be excellent from High Camp; camps are rumored to be good at Killen Creek. We should hike in around 4-5 miles with 2500 feet of elevation gain going in.

August 4 (Mon) - Lacamas Lake Bike Ride - Class B

We will ride around Green Mtn and Lacamas Lake with nice views of the lake and areas of Vancouver and Camas. It is 26 miles with 1050 feet of total ascent. We will stop for lunch at Lacamas Lake. Register with leader via e-mail - may reschedule if bad weather.
Depart: 10 am on SE McGillivray Blvd just east of SE Chakalov in Vancouver - email leader for directions.

August 9-10 (Sat-Sun) Tyee Work Party

Come join us at the August Tyee Work Party Weekend. Projects include remolding the Men’s restroom, Spring cleaning, moving wood and several odd jobs that need to be accomplished this Summer. Richard Gaunt will be the Work Party Chair during this weekend. Nancy Overpeck will be cooking delicious meals for us. Sign up for the weekend or for the day.

August 10-15 (Sun-Fri) Goat Rocks Backpack

Join us in exploring the enchanted beauty of Goat Rocks. We will enter into Lilly Basin via Packwood Lake on Sunday, and camp at Heart lake that evening. On 2nd day, move our camp to Snow Grass Flat and explore the area. For the 3rd day, we will camp at Marmot Meadow, south of Old Snowy, and explore Goat Lake. The group can then decide whether they would like to climb Old Snowy or go to Hawk Eye Point. For the 4th night, we will camp at Egg Butte, and then on the 5th night, Beaver Bill. We will conclude our journey by leaving through Packwood Lake to our cars on Friday. Dogs friendly hike, if you plan to bring a dog, please notify leaders in advance.

Aug 16-17 (Sat-Sun) Tyee Hike and Dine

Please join our cook, Kathy Pollock, for a multi course Tuscan menu featuring an appetizer, soup, salad, pasta, and a chicken dish, and dessert. Cost is $9 for dinner, breakfast is $3, day use lodge fee is $2. Overnight fee $10 members, $15 non-members. Lodge will open at 10 am on Sat. Nancy Overpeck will be the host.

Aug 11 (Mon) Sauvie Island Bike Ride – Class A/B

We will ride ride between 20 to 30 miles on flat terrain through beautiful farm land with very little traffic. The ride will take us out Reeder Rd along the river to the dead end and back. The distance depends on weather and participants.

Aug 28 (Thu) Willamette Mission Bike Ride – Class B

This is a day ride out of Gervais. The ride distance will be 25-35 miles. We will tour the South French Prairie probably including Mt. Angel area. We can adjust the ride based on weather and participants interests.
Meet: Gervais, by the railroad, at 10:00 AM. Take Woodburn exit off I5, go right about 1 mile, then follow sign to Gervais, to the left.

Aug 29 - Sept 1 (Sat-Mon) Tyee Open - Host only

Tyee Lodge will be open "Host Only", so you will need to provide your own food. Please reserve with the host so we know whom to expect. The host may not be present all the time so bring your key if you have one. Normal lodge fees apply. Host: Yvonne Parker 931-626-0725

Aug 30 - Sept 1 (Sat-Mon) Labor Day Celebration at Nesika

Mark your calendars for Labor Day Aug 30 - Sept 1 Labor Day Celebration at Nesika. Nancy is planning Labor Day activities including a membership hike from Nesika. Saturday will be a potluck dinner. Please advise her of your potluck dish. Nancy will cook Sunday breakfast, Sunday dinner, and Mon Breakfast. Bring your own lunches. $7 dinner, $3 breakfast, $2 day fee, $10 overnight members, $15 guests overnight. Close up after Monday breakfast. Please call Nancy if you can volunteer to drive the tractor.
Meet: 9:45 AM Sat at the Gate near MP 10 Larch Mountain Rd. We will be down the road sharply at 10 AM.
