June 3 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B
We begin our hike at 9:30 am and hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, somewhere
in the Portland metropolitan area, often in Forest Park. We then have lunch
at a nearby cafe.
This hike will be at Powell Butte Nature Park, SE Powell and SE 162nd.
Depart: 9:30 AM from the Powell Butte visitors center. Restrooms and plenty of parking.

We will hike until 8 PM-ish in Forest Park and the West Hills in two
groups:
Class A: Approximately 4-5 miles with less than 500 foot elevation gain.
Class B: Approximately 6 miles with 500 - 700 foot elevation gain (not cumulative).
Meet: 6 PM at Wallace Park between NW 25th and 26th on Raleigh

June 5 (Fri) Willamette Valley Bikeway Bike - Class B
We will do a loop ride of 25 miles which uses the Willamette Valley Scenic
Bikeway for about half of the miles and country roads for the rest, with
a longer option of 10-20 additional miles for interested riders. e-mail leader
indicating which option you are interested in, as well as carpool offers
or requests. Registration required in case of modification or cancellation
due to weather.

June 6-7 (Sat - Sun) Sedum Ridge Youth Backpack - Class A
15 mile hike in 2 days. We will start on Road 2000 outside of Stephenson
WA and head up the PCT trail to Sedum Ridge. We will camp on Sedum Ridge
and return on Sunday. Youth must be at least 12 years of age and accompanied
by an adult. We will provide consent forms for youth.

Jun 11 (Thur) Peninsula Park to Pier Park Bike Ride--Class A
Please join me for an easy ride around North Portland. 15 miles round trip,
flat, mostly on residential, low traffic streets. Bring a lunch for a picnic at Pier Park. Please make sure your tires are
pumped. There should be beautiful roses at Peninsula Park!

June 13 Saturday Elk Meadows hike - Class B
We’ll hike approximately 6.5 miles round trip with 1400 feet of elevation
gain to Elk Meadows on the east side of Mount Hood. We will try to find spot
for lunch at the shelter or another scenic spot with views of Mount Hood
and meadows. Crossing over Newton Creek could be over logs, rocks, or quick
ford. Since this is a hike into the Mount Hood Wilderness, total number of
hikers for this hike must be kept at 12 or less Northwest Forest Pass required
for driver.

Namhea Lew will cook her very delicious Korean menu of Grilled beef, mung
bean pancakes, sweet potato noodle salad, mixed Korean vegetables, Korean
cookies and tea for dessert. You will not want to miss this very special
dinner! Nancy Overpeck is the host, The cost is $22 for members for the weekend
including dinner and Sunday breakfast. The cost for dinner is $9.00 plus
day use fee if you are not staying overnight. The fees for overnights guests
and 2 meals is $27.

June 14 (Sun) Westside Trail Bike - Class C
Ride a series of multi-use trails on the westside in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area.
From the Westside trail we will connect to the Waterhouse Park trail then on to the Rock Creek trail.
Pass beautiful wetlands and lovely parks as we wind our way through residential communities.

June 16 (Tue) Lake Oswego Historical Bike Tour - Class B
This special ride will focus on the historical neighborhood of our own Trails
Club members Ann Marie Dudley and Ralph Rogers whose relatives were instrumental
in the development of Lake Oswego. We will spend time in the Lake Oswego
area viewing some of the significant landmarks. Length 25 miles with a ride
on the "Trolley Trail", across the Oregon City bridge, through West Linn,
Lake Oswego, Tryon Park and back to the Sellwood Riverfront Park via the
Sellwood Bridge. Shortened version of the ride (Class A) can be arranged.

June 17 (Wed) Evening Hike – Class A/C
To celebrate one of the longest days of the year, we will hike the "Triple Crown".
We will hike to the summit of Council Crest, then take mostly trails to Hoyt
Arboretum and Pittock Mansion. Please bring water and snacks and dress for
the weather. Class C: Approximately 9 miles with over 1000 foot elevation gain
(not cumulative).
There will also be a Class A hike, Approximately 4-5 miles with less than 500 foot elevation gain.

June 19-21 (Fri-Sun) Nesika Work Trip
We will open the gate a noon on Friday and 9:00 AM on Saturday morning.
As in the past work trips this year the emphasis is on clearing the road.
Please feel free to bring shovels, weed whackers, metal rakes, Pulaski, limb loppers etc.
Please come and enjoy a great group of people and harmonious energy at our beautiful lodge.
If you are not able to work on the road there are many other just as important jobs to do around the lodge.

Join us for a wonderful weekend at Tyee Lodge!
Pete and Elaine Nelson will be the Work Party Chairs and Arleta Miller will
be cooking delicious meals. I heard that Swiss Steak is on the menu for
Saturday dinner! Projects this summer include replacing front porch, inventory
of supplies, taking down avalanche signs, assess winter damage, bringing
in firewood, Spring cleaning, graveling the driveway, North fire escape,
kitchen porch cleaning, bridge improvements, tearing out and replacing kitchen
floor. Lodging and meals free to volunteers.

June 21 (Sun)Dayton, Amity, Maud Williamson Rec area, Grand Island Bike – Class C
We’ll head SW to Amity, then jog east for a lunch stop in Maud Williamson
Rec area. A short distance north, we’ll pedal around Grand Island. Total
distance about 40 miles, which is the reason for the C rating. The ride is
relatively flat. Relatively lightly-traveled rural roads. No bike lanes.
Facilities at Dayton, Amity, and Maud Williamson.
Depart: Near the corner of Main St and 4th St in Dayton.

Wildflowers, open ridgetops, rocky crags, a natural arch view of several volcanoes.
Walking in the sun the whole time. No more then 1,000 of elevation gain, we will endeavor
to keep the pace leisurely. Bring pleanty of water. 4.8 mile Balloon Loop.

Jun 28 (Sun) Frog Lake Butte Loop Hike - Class Easy B
This Mt Hood area hike begins at Frog Lake SnoPark. We'll start by following the PCT to the Lower Twin Lake.
Then up, up, up to the summit of Frog Lake Butte; also known as Panorama Crest.
Return to cars by a different trail. Vehicles will need to display a NW Forest Pass.
Hike: 6.8 miles w/ 1,700' elevation gain
Drive: 100 round trip miles

Jun 28 (Sun) Canby to Sawtell Hill Bike - Class C
Trip Postponed due to predicted high temps
We will ride on roads past farms and countryside going from Canby to Mollala,
and then ascend Sawtell Hill which is an 1100 ft climb in about 5 miles.
As we go up, the scenery becomes more forested and there are beautiful views.

Let's Talk About
2015 banquet
The 92nd Annual Banquet was attended by 87 people who enjoyed Italian food
at Ernesto’s, and self-composed keyboard music during the social hour by Junior
Member, Callista Hunt. She has lots of musical talent for someone so young!
Everyone enjoyed member, William Sullivan’s presentation.
Syliva Milne won the Waespe Award for her many years of service to the club. She is currently
doing an awesome job as Club Historian! Lee Squier and Michael Stupek were
the lucky winners of the 2016 banquet certificates. Many thanks to the following
people who helped with this year’s banquet: George Milne, Randy Dietrich, William
Sullivan, Callista Hunt, Callista Snively, Vicki Wood, Joan Miller, Namhea
